9 Steps to achieving the perfect K-pop star skin

 

Hey guys!

Now,  i am gonna address a topic that is always in the back of our minds. Have you ever wondered how the hell Korean pop stars have those majestic smooth skin? Look at SNSD Yoona or IU or even 2PM Nickhun. Almost all Kpop stars have those perfect skin which me always makes me wonder what is the difference with their skin from mine? is it genetics? Well, now i am going to reveal the secret behind those desirable skin!

Skincare

The very first step to achieving our goal is skincare. If you are like me, you would have googled and surfed a thousand and one sites on skincare routines, watched zillion youtube skincare routine videos and tried countless beauty products. However, each of our skin is different, hence different routines work for different people. In fact, watching so many skincare videos just makes me confused as every one is different.

Now, the skincare routine that i am about to recommend has worked for me for 3 years so far and i have compared many websites before creating this routine. Since i am an asian, this routine should work better on asian skin as compared to others. However, everyone is free to try!

Here is an overview of the skincare routine:

  1. Double Cleansing ( Morn& Night)
  2. Toner ( Morn& Night)
  3. Exfoliate( Once a week)
  4. Essence ( Morn& Night)
  5. Serum ( Morn& Night)
  6. Facial Mask ( Once a week)
  7. Eye cream & Lip Butter ( Morn& Night)
  8. Moisture, Moisture, MOISTURE! ( Morn& Night)
  9. Sleeping Mask/ Night Cream (Optional)

 

  1. Double Cleansing ( Morn& Night)

This is by far the most important step in this whole routine. Many of us including me have had this misconception since young that we can remove our make up just by using cleansing foam. This is WRONG. In fact, cleaning make up with foam may even damage our skin. This double cleansing step involves a cleansing oil and then a cleansing foam.

Firstly, pour a little of the cleansing oil on a cotton pad and wipe all the make up off your face. If you are using eye liner, use a cotton bud to remove the eyeliner so as to not damage your eye area. Next, rinse off all the oil with water.

Then, take the cleansing foam and dab it on the cross section of your face. Next, spread the foam throughout your face in a circular motion. Afterwards, rinse with water. Your face will feel really clean and fresh after all that cleansing!

The product that i strongly recommend is The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Cleansing Oil & Foam. These two comes in pairs and they work like magic. Not only that, they smell so sweet and calming. I have used them for forever and they are pretty cheap (about $10 and $9 on amazon) so i strongly recommend them

2. Toner ( Morn& Night)

Okay, toner is very essential in this routine as it adds an extra security to ensure our make up and dirt is all gone. This is very helpful especially for those with oily and acne-prone skin.

Firstly, pour a little of toner onto a cotton pad and use it to wipe your entire face. This shall leave your face feeling very refreshed. Let dry for 2-3 min

The toner i am recommending is a cheaper option from Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner. I just changed my toner recently to this and it has been working pretty well for me. It cost only about $18 on amazon for the giant bottle(500 ml). However, i recommend buying the smaller one as the huge one is inconvenient to carry for a frequent traveler like myself.

The alternate toner that is slightly more pricey is the Nature republic 90% Aloe Vera Toner(160 ml for $12 on amazon) and Innisfree Rose Clear Skin. I personally have not tried these, but my friends have and they mentioned that these are as good. However, they are a little on the pricey side, so as a college student, i tend to go for the cheaper option. But if any of you have tried it, do tell me how it works out.

3. Exfoliate( Once a week)

This is basically the step that make this routine differ from many others. Exfoliation is extremely important as it clears away our dead skin and ensures that our face stays healthy! However, be warned that you should not do this everyday. I would recommend once every week and remember, as troublesome as it sounds, don’t skip it!

The product i have been using is the Skin Food Black Sugar Mask Wash Off. I have heard many excellent reviews on this product and i must say that i agree. Moreover, it only cost $8 for a small tub on amazon. Apply a layer of the product on your face using a circular motion and let it sit for 15 minutes. Then, rinse your face using the same action to exfoliate your skin. The aftereffect will be a supple and healthy skin.

4. Essence ( Morn& Night)

Having essence in your routine is extremely ESSENTIAL (haha get it:) Various essence have different functions and effects on your skin, but it overall helps with brightening skin complexion, age renewal or even skin firming. Personally, i am still a teenager so i use the Etude House Pearl Aura Brightening Essence( $23 on amazon). At first, i did not notice much difference  until i have used the product for at least 3 months. My face really became MUCH brighter and whiter, hence, i strongly recommend this product as it really works. Just apply the product on the cross section of your face and spread it throughout with a circular motion. Let dry for 2-3 min

Other alternative would be the Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence. I have read many reviews and almost all recommends this essence. I personally have not tried it, but reviews don’t lie. However, the down side is that this is on the pricey side ($27 on amazon). Despite that, most essence are expensive so do consider that.

5.Serum ( Morn& Night)

Now,i know you are thinking what the heck is this and why is there so many steps. Bear with me because this step is also very crucial. Similar to essence, serum differs according to your skin types. Some would prefer serums for wrinkle while other prefer smooth skin, acne-prone skin, etc. Serum is like the vitamin that you give your skin everyday, so it is important to have one in your routine.

The serum that i have used is the Skin Food Peach Sake Pore Serum($11.49 on amazon). Apply it on the cross section of your face and spread it with a circular motion. Let dry for 3 min

My only comment for this product is that IT SMELLS AMAZING! It’s like applying peach perfume all over your face and the best thing is, my skin feels so smooth after using this. It is an immediate effect! As i have an oily skin, this serum is specialized to cover my pores and reduce the oil produced on my skin. So for those with oily skin, this serum is the one for you.

An alternative would be the Missha Time Revolution Night Repair Science Activator Ampoule Serum($27 on amazon). This works together with the Missha Time Revolution First Treatment Essence and it helps with wrinkles, whitening of skin and moisture.

6. Facial Mask ( Once a week)

I know this takes a pretty long time, but IT’S WORTH IT. Facial mask is definitely your holy grail to getting the glowy dewy skin. The good news is you only have to use it once a week! Just gently peel off the mask from the package and place it on your face for 20 min.

The facial mask that i recommend is definitely the Etude House I Need You Mask Sheet (20 pcs for $27 on amazon). These not only feels good on your face, it actually smells good. After using these masks, my face definitely feel much softer and brighter. Now if you are on budget and wants to only buy a few, my favourite masks are the aloe, collagen, pearl and rice.

If you want to spice things up a little, there is always the famous Face Shop Character Masks( 5 pcs for $11.10 on amazon). I have tried it a couple of times with friends and it is guaranteed to jazz up your girl’s night!

7. Eye cream & Lip Butter

I think this is pretty self-explanatory as we need to take care of our eyes and lips. I have been using the Skin Food Salmon Brightening Eye Cream for a while and BEWARE, IT DOES NOT WORK. Instead i would recommend the Kiehls Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado($60 on amazon) and Fresh Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream($41 on sephora) . I have not tried both products but have heard good reviews and am planning to try Fresh first just because it’s a little cheaper. I will give an update on this blog once i have tried them!

The correct way to use an eye cream is to dip three fingers into the product and rub it on the three fingers on your other hand. Next, dab it onto your eye area using gentle tapping motion. Do not rub it on your under eyes as it would be less effective for absorption.

The lip butter that i highly recommend is the Fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm($30 in nordstrom). Apply this before you use any lip product or sleep to ensure that you don’t end up with dry lips! Although it is on the pricey side, i strongly recommend it as it works very well especially since my lips are very dry and peels off often.

8. Moisture, Moisture, MOISTURE! ( Morn& Night)

This last step is definitely the most important of all. Everyone needs a good moisturizer to keep our skin hydrated and don’t be afraid to spend a little more on this one. The product that i recommend is the Etude House Moistfull Collagen Cream($25 on amazon). After changing about 7 moisturizers, i am clearly hooked onto this one. This keep my face very hydrated and moist throughout the day, which is a feat considering California’s dry weather. However the best part about this product is that it does not leave my face sticky and gross. Many of my previous moisturizer makes my face looks sticky and wet after applying make up over it, but this one actually has a dry and clean finish! So i highly recommend this product.

9. Sleeping Mask/ Night Cream (Optional)

This is an optional step but still recommended to achieve those glowy skin. The sleeping pack/ night cream serve as a second layer of moisturizing to ensure that your face is fully hydrate when you go to sleep. It also helps seal in the moisture into your face. The product that i recommend for this is the Laneige Water Sleeping Mask($24 on amazon), This item smells super good and does the best job in locking in the moisture. On top of that, it helps to detoxify and purify your face. What else is there to ask for?

Diet & Hydration

Achieving the perfect smooth skin does not only rely on a good skincare routine. Your diet and hydration also plays a key role. I only have two advice for this:

1.AVOID OILY FOOD AT ALL COST

I’m not saying completely don’t eat them. I myself am guilty for being a sucker for fried food, McDonalds and potato chips, so i do understand the pain of avoiding them! However as much as possible, do reduce your intake of oily food as it does a damaging effect on yous skin and also body weight. Instead, go for grilled food and fruits.

2. Drink LOTS LOTS LOTS OF WATER

There is only so much that those moisturizers can do. It is very important to keep yourself and your skin hydrated by drinking water. Make water your BEST FRIEND, because you have to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day and that’s the minimum!

Finally! That’s a very long post but thank you for reading! I am sure that if you guys follow these steps, it is only a matter of time before you achieve those beautiful smooth skin. Of course, a lot of those K-pop star photos have got to do with photo shop and make up, but the base of your skin has to be smooth and hydrated first in order to look extra good in make up:)
